tea time

I'm so delighted to have my fried Lindsey visit today.  Lindsey blogs over at The Sweet Christian Bride.  Today she wanted to share a bit about what makes her mornings special.

It's a tea morning.  Jasmine green tea to be exact.  Well let's be honest, practically every morning is a tea morning for me.  Not because it's cold outside or I need a jolt of caffeine, but because of the ritual it has become.  It used to be routine back when I got up at 5AM and needed a jolt of caffeine to get me going in the morning, but since my life has slowed down, here has become a sweetness to sitting down at my special spot at the table with my Bible and a cup of steaming tea.  A sacredness, if you will, where I know that I can be present and that the Spirit of God will meet me.

The more I grow with God, the more I've allowed Him to enter into my routine and paint it with His holy presence. Like jogging. I'm not a runner by any means. It takes every ounce of discipline in my body to wake up early and step into the morning chill to exert energy I haven't yet discovered. But I do because I know it's good stewardship of my body and, most excitedly, because God has turned that routine into a sacred ritual for me. When I turn on Pandora to Hillsong United or to Jesus Culture (depends on my energy level), I know God will meet with me and speak to me on my jog. He has given me an expectancy for that time. That's how I am able to get my running shoes on before my eyes have even unblurred from the previous night's sleep.

What rituals do you have that bring you to a sacred place with God? How do you intentionally protect that sacredness and keep your ritual from reverting back to a routine?  Share in comments.

  1. What a lovely guest post . . . I love the idea of sitting down with a cup of tea for morning devotions (it just never seems to happen around here anymore, but I think I need to make it a priority).

  2. I've been reading the "Jesus Calling" devotional the past few months. Every morning I sit on my little spot on the couch and "pick up the phone"!! It's so good to hear His voice first thing in the morning. :)
