Autism is a horrible thing! The first time I had ever heard of it was when the movie “Rain man” came out with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. Somehow I don’t think Hollywood gave a true picture of how very awful this disease could be. I watched a 4year old boy last year that had a “mild” case of autism and it was difficult, but I actually felt blessed that he was not as severe as some can be. We had new heating and air put in our home while I was doing daycare, so I warned the workers that this little boy behaved “different “from the other kids. Turned out one of the workers had a young adult child that was “severely” autistic. He said there was no relationship at all, no response on her part whatsoever. It broke my heart to think of this young woman trapped in her own mind with no emotional connection with others. Here is what is interesting, this father stood very firm in his belief that it was all the ‘pink drink’ (antibiotics) that was given to her as a young child for ear infections that caused the autism!

What happens when a very young child, maybe even a baby gets an imbalance between intestinal flora and ?

Babies are born sterile, but the microbes that were ingested during the process of birth immediately inhabit the infant gut in a matter of days. It seems as if that early on as a newborn, there is already a co-existence between human cells and microbial cells. In fact, these microbial cells even significantly exceed in number compared to human cells.

So, what is so important about gut symbiosis? What does it have to do with autism?  Well, before anything else, you have to understand that gut symbiosis is one of the factors that drive the functions of the immune system. A good intestinal flora not only balances one’s immunology, but also makes it possible for various biochemical and physiological process to occur.

It has been found out that autistic children significantly have a different intestinal flora from what is considered acceptable. In the case of individuals that have overgrowth, there is a direct alteration in the gut environment. There are now fewer good bacteria that facilitate optimum and maximal absorption of important nutrients. Not only that, due to the few good bacteria, is also not prevented from transforming into its invasive form—the fungal form. This becomes invasive if not kept in check and will result to various complications that weaken the immune system. In addition, the brain is greatly affected as harmful toxins are released into the bloodstream.

The release of toxins due to the overgrowth of also results to a cascade of events such as allergic reactions and all sorts of immune responses. If this becomes chronic, there is a high probability that the brain will also be affected. Remember, food allergies do not only overwork the immune system, but they also lead to a lot of negative outcomes that include depression, confusion, and headaches—all of which are also symptoms that are exhibited by most autistic children.

It has also been long established that mental acuity as well as emotional stability coincide with gastrointestinal disturbances. One of the symptoms of autism is detachment or depersonalization. This occurs also as one of the indications of Candidiasis called ‘brain fog.’ This results from fatigue, mineral or nutritional deficiency, hypoglycemia, amongst others. All of these can weaken the immune system and may also cause neurological problems even in children if overgrowth becomes persistent.

On a last note, infants with poor intestinal flora acquired from their mothers will continue to become susceptible to yeast overgrowth. This is even made worse by the injection of vaccines that contain toxins. The presence of all these toxins from both the vaccine and will further overwhelm and eventually weaken the immune system. There are even cases when autoimmune diseases can develop.

Overall, autism can develop in infants who are already born susceptible to yeast overgrowth. Remember, autism is also an infectious disease, and as such, can be an underlying factor to its development. The connection between and so many other diseases seems incredible but viable. Some doctors are starting to treat Autism with anti-fungal and placing the patient on a strict diet (the diet). Any positive results from treating in Autism victims are a true blessing!
