What came first, gluten intolerance or candida overgrowth?
Posted by Julene Saunders at 4 Jun, 2008
Comments OffShortly after being told I had Systemic Candida and to stay away from foods like wheat, corn, dairy, and chicken, I visited a health food store and in my conversation with the owner she asked “are you gluten intolerant?” I think my reaction was “huh?!” Let’s face it, up until a year ago I was not very nutritional minded! I learned that gluten is the protein found in grains like wheat, rye, and barley. People can be VERY sensitive to gluten especially those who already have a problem with Candida Albicans.
I don’t think I had a gluten problem until I had a Candida problem, or maybe I didn’t have a Candida problem until I had a gluten problem. Either way, they seemed to go together for me. The most common explanation given for this is through the ‘Leaky Gut Syndrome.’ This occurs when there is a disruption of the healthy and normal lining of the intestines. Candida destructs this lining by piercing the walls of the gut, thereby causing it to become more porous and permeable to a multitude of macromolecules, toxins, and antigens—all of which are elements that cause inflammatory and sudden allergic reactions to foods like gluten. Ever get the Candida diet blues?
Posted by Julene Saunders at 1 Jun, 2008
(2) CommentsWell, I went to see my doctor a couple weeks ago. I have been feeling really bad lately and wondering if I am going backward instead of forward with this Candida treatment. I was doing so well for so long; I thought “I got this thing licked!” So what happened next? I started to get lax with my diet and treatment! I cut back with the antifungal and allowed my busy schedule to dictate my diet. Now I am paying for it!!
I have that chronic fatigue feeling, dizziness, muscle aches, trouble concentrating (trouble writing this article!) and some added symptoms of muscle twitching and sometimes fuzzy vision. UGH!!! I want this to be over! I went back to my books and one says I need to go back to Phase II Diet religiously. I think that was my problem to start with – I followed it RELIGIOUSLY and then got self-righteous! What’s God say? Pride comes before the fall. Here I am on the ground needing to be picked up again! Maybe when we are in a humble state we are so low we don’t have room to fall:)
I go back this week for the blood test results for anemia, vitamin B12, vitamin D, hormones, and who knows what else? I have been told to start a parasite cleanse again (I did that at the beginning of this Candida treatment) and of course watch the diet! No more excuses (my business mentor says they are just well planned lies! She’s right).
So here I am being vulnerable and wanting encouragement, when my purpose for this blog was to encourage others! Tell me some of your success stories!! PPLLLEASSSE!

Stumbling with fear of failure in your home business, or walking with clear vision?

(3) Comments“If you knew you couldn’t fail, what would you do with your life?” That’s a question that keeps presenting itself to me. What success or experiences am I missing out on because of my own fear of failure? As humans, in our flesh, we are motivated by two things; pleasure or pain. We are willing to take certain risks and go out of our comfort zone if we are rewarded with pleasurable results. However, sometimes we do not believe those results are obtainable and therefore avoid any pain that might be derived from stepping out in faith. Read More

If you have Candida - spit, chew, and swallow!

(2) CommentsAny individual wanting to experience optimum health with good digestion must pay close attention to what they are eating and how they are eating it. This is especially true when for those whose systems are already compromised. Digestion in the body takes a great deal of energy, up to 40 – 60% in a relatively healthy individual. However, those who are treating Candida Albicans have added stress on their systems that causes them to use more energy for the same job, up to 80%. There are some simple techniques to aid in proper digestion.
Cooking good tasting and colorful food will actually aid in digesting. The first step in digestion is in the mouth when you chew and mix your food with your saliva. When you spend time preparing your food you are also preparing your mouth! Your saliva glands will start to secrete at the expectation of eating the food. This is especially true if it smells good, looks good, and is over all appetizing to you. It is worth the time and energy to find the foods you can eat that you love, and prepare it yourself. AAhhh, the Proverbs 31 woman. Since I am a woman I look to this passage and wonder does that describe me at all?! I love this woman and want to BE her. Look at the following verses:
Vs. 11 – the heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain.
Vs. 13 – she seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands.
vs. 15 – She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants.
Vs. 16 – She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard.
Vs. 18 – She perceives that her merchandise (profit) is good, And her lamp does not go out by night.
Vs. 24 – She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants.
Vs. 31 – give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

What can you eat on a Candida Diet?
Posted by Julene Saunders at 10 Apr, 2008
(3) CommentsThe Candida Diet has been raising some questions with some of you. There are a lot of foods that I can’t eat that are a part of SAD (Standard American Diet – even its’ abbreviation is very telling), but that doesn’t mean I am doomed to starve! I would like to give you a brief overview of what Candida is, some diet requirements, and a really disgusting test you can try at home to see if you may have a Candida overgrowth problem.
Candida is yeast, we all have it, and it’s on our skin in our mouth and in our intestines. Sadly it can become a very real problem when yeast and good bacteria in the intestine get out of balance. There are a lot of contributing factors involved with this imbalance. Antibiotic use is a big one, especially long term use like chronic sinus infections or acne medicine, but we also get it from meat and milk products. Some other contributors are birth-control pills, hormonal changes, medications, and even drinking chlorinated water, all can cause partial or total destruction of your friendly bacteria in the lower gut, but do not harm the Candida. If you add to that a diet rich in food that Candida feeds upon (sugar, carbs, refined food, and yeast) the Candida grows hog wild!
What’s the solution? Starve out the Candida while taking natural remedies that aggressively attacks it. The best diet starts with organic whole food. That means we need to go back to Little House on the Prairie days! Wikipedia says this of whole food: are those that are unprocessed and unrefined, or processed and refined as little as possible before being consumed. They typically do not contain added sugar, salt, fat, or chemicals. Organic food: are produced according to a certain production standards, it means they were grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, human waste, or sewage sludge, and that they were processed without ionizing radiation or food additives. For animals, it means they were reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones. In most countries, organic produce must not be genetically modified. O.K. how many of us now want to start eating organic whole food? Grown without human waste, sewage sludge, radiation, and genetically modified?! Wha? Did you even know you were consuming food that had all that? But that is a whole other article.
