Bearing Fruit, but is it organic?

Bearing fruit. That’s actually a question for me, bearing fruit? Does that mean I need to plant a whole bunch of fruit trees?! Just kidding. It is my desire to be effective for God’s kingdom which can only be done by obedience to His word and the promptings of the Holy Spirit. My ‘fruit’ is evidence of the Holy spirit in me, so that is my ongoing question “Bearing fruit?”
I love that verse: John 15:16 “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you”. So what fruit is being displayed? Love? Joy? Peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and/or self control?
Recently I have had several ladies come to me asking “how did you lose so much weight, what is your secret?” or “I have been told I shouldn’t eat sugar, how did you do it?” For a while I was a little baffled as to how I should answer these ladies. You see, it was nothing that I could claim as my own. Let me give you a little history…
A year ago I was suffering with a pretty bad case of anemia. I went through a series of iron infusions at the hospital that didn’t really help me much. I was also overweight and joined weight watchers at the encouragement of a friend. It was then that I discovered what poor eating habits I had! I was a fast food junkie and sugar aholic. I had to pray that God would cause me to desire food that was good for me! (I didn’t even know that was scriptural – Ps. 103:5 “Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”) I also needed to replace my soda and coffee habit with water (this did not make me a happy camper!). I told the LORD that I would drink water as a sacrifice to Him and would He please bless that. He did all that for me!! Praise the LORD! I lost 16lbs – YEAH, but I was still anemic.
In September I saw my doctor for lab results and she determined at that time that my anemia and sinus infections were symptoms of Systemic Candida . WHA? I don’t even know what that is and the diet was radical! No sugar, no yeast, no wheat, no processed food, etc. What is this Egypt? Deuteronomy 29:6 “you did not eat bread or drink wine or beer-so that you might know that I am the LORD your God.” What could I eat?! Organic whole foods. Talk about a culture shock! Can you get that at Taco Bell? God is so good though, He really did make it possible to follow this, while cooking for a family of five! I lost another 25lbs in just a little over a month and have kept it off for about 5 months now. Let me be clear, I could not do this on my own power!! I give Him all the glory. Colossians 1:11 says “May you be strengthen with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurances and patience, with joy giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light.” It was not by my strength, power, endurance or patience, it was His.
I do praise Him that He also gave me “The Feast” at this same time to help me with this organic whole food thing. My husband had stumbled across this product through a work friend and then signed us up to distribute it. I of course was not interested! (That was in May 2007) By September (right after my doctor’s visit) I was their very best consumer and enthusiastic distributor. I feel truly blessed that God saw fit to help me out by giving me a great product and a great business. We are surrounded by other Christians who are just as concerned as we are about how the people in our country are feeding themselves. I really do not believe I would be so enthusiastic if it weren’t for the process of the past year leading me to this. I am excited to see where all this is going to go and God’s continued plan for our lives!
This reminds me of a quote a friend had given me from some book (not sure which one) “Prepare my heart to see this process as a blessing similar to finding water in the desert rather than a hard laborious task. May I delight in You and what You reveal to me.” I was daydreaming one day (while cleaning the bathroom – gotta make it bearable) about a certain materialistic item and I thought – “What a prize!” And the LORD spoke to my spirit – “no, the process is the prize”. Whoa! How about you? Where are you in the process of your life?
Ladies, (I don’t know if there will be gentlemen reading this but they are welcome too) it is my hope to use this site to encourage others to better health (I believe this is part of the Abundant Life!) and freedom in Christ. To feature useful products and an opportunity for other moms like me to work from home. To offer good recipes and books or movies that make life more enjoyable during the daily grind, and to have my very own public/private journal! Please feel free to share your public/private thoughts in response. Let’s get to know one another! I love to hear what is working for you to make life easier and what your prayers are, and what fruit God is blessing you with in your life.

Good Job Julene and Mike. Your website looks very professional. I would like to recommend the only book I have read on nutrition. It has changed my life and it’s short, simple, and very informative with recipes. “The Bibles seven secrets to healthy eating” by Joyce Rogers. I have been struggling and praying for help to feed my family well forever. Since Jarrett got sick I was led to this book and then at costco during the Vita-Mix show. I have used the Vita-Mix blender nearly every day for the past month. If it’s a challenge to get enough fruits and veggies in your family’s diet this is a great tasty way to do it. He has been gently leading me towards better health for years but like Julene’s story I had a serious immentant need to healthy food. The Lord has been so gracious to empower me and make learning to eat well fun. It’s expensive to choose this lifestyle but in some ways it is drawing our family together just by us all working together to make it happen. Hi Julee!

Awesome blog Julene! You did good girl! I have seen God working mightly on my behalf in recent weeks regarding this whole eating/food issue. He brought you into my life in this issue months ago and I have valued immensely our discussions and prayers about this. Most recently, he has brought another gal into my life who has also lost a significant amount of weight and is also giving ALL the glory to God. Those are the kind of people I have been searching for.
I have no idea if this is going to get to your blog or not…I’m really naive in this area so I won’t write anymore until I see it went to where it was supposed to! I look forward to ‘talking’ more on this site and listening to your words of wisdom, Julene. You ARE a good writer!
