“ And When You Fast…”

It is so cool how God speaks to us through our circumstances to understand Him better or to initiate a deeper intimacy with Him. Over the last year of different health difficulties I have been so blessed by what God has taught me through them. He has opened scripture up to me like I have never seen before and given me such a desire not only to know more, and learn more but also to be more, all by wanting more of Him!
Fasting was one of these new things for me. I of course always knew that fasting was done in the bible, but it never occurred to me to actually do it myself! Of course we all fast within our 24 hours of time we are given in a day when we are sleeping. That is why our first meal is called breakfast – break fast. During this nightly fast our body sets to work repairing itself through its natural ability of spontaneous healing. Muscles rebuild themselves and toxins are pushed out and made ready to be eliminated. I am sure you have heard many times not to eat a lot right before bed. The body can’t properly work on healing if it is still busy digesting.
Today I am reminded of another time when you fast… when you are sick. I of course was reminded of this because I have started with a cold today. GGRRRR! What do we do to get over colds quicker? We drink lots of liquids, eat light, and get lots of rest. I personally believe my body heals much faster when I stick with just liquids. For example, I usually take Uri International’s The Feast and Beyond Berries, I also juice vegetables from our garden, make berry smoothies, and have tea and tons of water. All of this is easier said than done because I still have an appetite to eat regular food. Like the Tri-tip in my refrigerator that I need to cook for my family. Lord help me!
I know even in this He has a purpose and plan (my cold I mean). I know what it is. Sometimes I get so busy and so wrapped up in the life going on around me that it takes a cold to slow me down, make me rest and reflect on Him a little more intensely. Here I am, laid out on my bed resting/writingJ
Enjoy your fast tonight!
